About Me

Welcome! I’m so glad you stopped by! I’m Sherry and I’m so happy you found my blog. I started my blog  in 2005. I started it on the Blogger platform way back in 2005, but over the last few years have moved it to WordPress. It was my creative outlet for many years where I shared the struggles of living with a son with Autism and seizures.

My family and I live in Kentucky and we have a farm we call home. We are passionate about creating a healthy clean environment for our children. We have a  Non- GMO Organic farm where we grow as many vegetables as we can. I can tell you some years the deer win, we have a herd of deer that move around here in the valley where we live and tend to eat all of our gardens from time to time.

My Family

My husband and I have been married for 34 years and have two grown children. Our oldest son is special needs and has Autism and seizures I will share a lot of the struggles of living with seizures and Autism here on my blog. We try to live as close to natural as we can. I am allergic to most chemicals, even those used to clean your house with. I share a few of the things I use in our home here. I can walk down the cleaning aisle and my eyes will start burning and I will start to itch all over and have to take allergy medicine right away or I will be looking for my Epi-pen. A few years ago I had an allergic reaction to corn I had bought at a local farmers market and it sent me to the hospital for three days. They found out I was allergic to GMO fruits and vegetables so we started growing as many things as we could grow. I have to be very careful now when we eat out too.

God has blessed us with two children, Icy and Dusty. It is  such a joy to be their mom. Life has been difficult for each one of them, one being special needs and the other living in the shadow of a special needs sibling. they each have faced struggles but in different ways. Our son was diagnosed with seizures and Tuberous Sclerosis at the age of 2  1/2. He has never went a day with out seizures. When he was 4 he was diagnosed with Autism. My daughter is such a big help with her brother. They are very close and she always tries to have a smile on her face no matter what is happening.

Our Blog

I am truly passionate about creating a beautiful, thriving healthy home. I want to help others do the same. On the blog I have lots of post that can help. Posts on green cleaning, going paperless, Ketogentic life style, Keto recipes, healthy recipes the entire family will love and are made with your health in mind. I take family favorites and make them as healthy as possible with lots of taste and low carb and little to no sugar. The Ketogentic recipes are in the process of being added to the blog. I will be putting up our story and keto recipes very soon so keep a watch out, trust me they will be amazing!

Our blog is a work in progress. We hope one day our blog will be a financial means of support for our family.  Beautiful Southern Life is  a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com when you make purchases through one of our affiliate links we get a small percentage and you still pay the same price. In this way you are helping my family continue to work from home and we will always “pay it forward” by sharing what we’re learning about here on the blog. We love it when you share our posts on your social media channels and when you  email us with ideas you would like for us to explore.

Here is a glimpse into where I do most of my work here on the blog. When I am not working on our farm or creating new recipes I’m sitting here on my porch swing or at my cafe table looking out over our farm. I cleaned off my porch and snapped the picture in the middle while everything was off the porch it was so pretty! So excuse the chairs and things in the yard. The first picture is in the view from my treadmill desk I made for my study, It looks out over the front yard too. The last picture is my porch swing where I do most of my writing on the blog. I just love sitting looking out over the farm and sharing what I’m learning and sharing a little of our life with you. Take some time and get to know us and follow along with us as we create a beautiful southern life here in Kentucky.

Our Farm, Fernwood Farms

I shared with you earlier we have an Organic Farm here in Kentucky. Our little farm is Fernwood Farms  it was established in 2001. Here is our Facebook page ( our website is under construction right now, so check back often it should be up soon) so you can see what we are doing. I do share things on our Facebook page that are important to the organic life style and a few awesome recipes and how to live as close to a natural life style as you can! We share a lot of environmental posts about what is going on in the agriculture industry that affects the average consumer. I am working on being a family that is as close to zero waste as we can get, so you will see post of that nature too.

We do grow for the public but over the last few growing seasons our son was quite sick and I wasn’t able to grow produce for farmers markets in my area. I do hope to get back to my gardening soon I sure do miss it! Here are a few pictures from around our farm to show you a little farm life in the making.
